Cosquín Festival Videos - Raly Barrionuevo - Against the Famatina Project - Uncut version of "Ey Paisano" - Jan 24, 2012

By Mario Grinfeld: This is the uncut version of singer-songwriter Raly Barrionuevo's presentation at the 2012 Cosquin Festival on January 24, 2012. Due to the schedule of TV Publica's regular programming, Barrionuevo's presentation was not transmitted in full. Some people said the cut ocurred at the precise time when Raly Barrionuevo was singing the song "Ey Paisano" in a protest against the Famatina mine project in Argentina, carried on by Osisko Mining Corporation (in 2007 Barrick Gold abandoned their operations in Famatina after successful protests). In countries around the world, corporations such as Barrick and Osisko take advantage, of inadequate and poorly enforced regulatory controls, in order to rob indigenous people of their lands, destroy sensitive ecosystems and agricultural land, pollute water supplies, support brutal police and security operations, and sue anyone who tries to report on their actions. In a commendable action Raly Barrionuevo stood up against the Famatina project, under their slogan "Famatina no se toca." From the artistic point of view, Raly's presentation, with the participation of Elvira Ceballos and Hermanos Abalos, was, as it is common with Barrionuevo, of a beauty well beyond the norm.
